Rockwall Area Color Guard 2024/2025 School Year
Flags, Flair, & Finesse: DFW Symphonic Band Color Guard
Color Guard students work as a team alongside the band to interpret music with dance and equipment including flags, rifles, and other props. Performances will eventually include marching in a fall halftime show with the band.
Winter guard, which is an indoor sport opportunity, allows the guard to perform to pre-recorded music without the band. Depending on the age and number of students enrolled, we will explore participation in a local area Winter Guard Circuit.
Students will learn fundamentals for tall flag, rifle and dance. This season students will focus on winter guard.
Cost
- Weekly: $35/week
Cost includes a set of personal-owned practice equipment (flag, rifle), performance uniform, additional team-owned performance equipment, team entry fees into local circuit competitions, and winter indoor practice space rental from Nov-March.
*Price may be reduced/refunded if we do not compete in all the available competitions, if we can find a reduced-cost indoor practice space, or as student enrollment increases. We could fundraise this year to cover initial equipment investment and off-set personal expense if a parent leads fundraising.

WHSA Sports
We are working in partnership with WHSA (Wildfire Homeschool Sports Association). We will be providing them with both marching and pep bands in the future. If your student is interested in participating in homeschool sports, you can find more information about WHSA on their Facebook Page.
Our Directors, Scott & Barbara Himel
Our Director
Scott Himel is an esteemed director in the North Texas community. He was the head director for Liberty Christian School for 15 years. He was the firector of bands for several homeschool band, orchestra and choirs and throughout all of his programs, his students have won multiple state-wide awards! He was recognized as the TAPPS Fine Arts teacher of the year for all of Texas in 2015. He is currently the band director for Lakeland Christian Academy and he will now be directing our symphonic band!
